At 360 Degrees Learning and Skills we work with young people of all ages who are currently out of education, further education or employment/training.
We see our our job at 360 learning and skills as a very simple one - to help a young person create a bridge back to a place where they are ready to learn or participate.
To do this we provide relevant activities, support and mentoring but most importantly an overriding ethos that helps a young person smile and laugh again, interact appropriately and begin to believe in themselves.
When this begins to happen then we are ready to support that young person face the next challenges which are to make the steps back into a formal learning or other complex social setting.
A young person may...
Have been permanently excluded
Refusing to attend school or college
Displays challenging behaviours that
make it difficult to find a place
Require assessment to help secure
the correct education placement but…
Currently needs to be re-engaged before any assessment or placement can successfully take place
Broadly, most young people who start working with us are disengaged from learning, socialising, activity, family and quite often, participation in life. At the beginning of the journey with us they are usually in a very difficult place.
Most young people who are referred to us have either a Statement of Special Education Needs, Education Health Care Plan (EHC) or are in the process of being assessed for one.
Specific needs can include:
Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD)
Oppositional Defiance Disorder
(ODD)
Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD)
Speech and language processing difficulties
Emotional Behavioural Difficulties
(EBD, BESD)
Attachment disorder
or quite likely undiagnosed learning needs that have led to exclusion e.g. Dyslexia - a very common theme for us is a young person to have behavioural challenges linked to writing - sound familiar?
It is important to know that 360 Learning and Skills is not a stand alone learning provider.
We do not provide a formal learning curriculum for young people with specific learning difficulties.
Our role is work with young people, their families and relevant services to facilitate a young person being able to return to an education, employment/training provider where their learning and/or behaviour needs can be addressed in the long term.
Hence the name 360 Degrees!
For the most part we are contracted by Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) services of local education authorities to help young people with a statement of special education needs or an EHC plan get back into school, college or employment.
